What are the requirements to get notarized online?
Get started by making sure you have a reliable internet connection using a laptop or desktop with the ability to video conference (webcam w/ microphone) and a smart cell phone capable of receiving a text and taking a picture.
Identification
Identification requirements for notarial services are required throughout all 50 US states. Signee(s) must present valid and active Government issued photo identification. Remote Online Notarization, (RON), also has an additional requirement for the online signer to pass Knowledge Based Authentication (KBA), in addition to electronic Credential Analysis..

Document Verification & Certified Copies
Notarization is a legally recognized method of authenticating documents. It confirms the identity of the signer and helps ensure that documents are executed in accordance with applicable laws and jurisdictional requirements.
In certain situations, a notary may also certify that a copy of a document is a true and accurate copy of an original document that was personally reviewed by the notary.
What Can Be Certified
A notary may certify copies of many common documents, as long as the document is not a prohibited or restricted record. Common examples of documents that may be eligible for certified copies include:
Powers of Attorney
Contracts and agreements
Leases
Bills of sale
Financial statements
Health-related documents
Passports and driver’s licenses (where permitted by state law)
Important Limitations
Notaries may not certify copies of:
Vital records (such as birth, death, marriage, or divorce certificates)
Public or government-issued records available from:
Clerks and recorders
Secretaries of State
State archives
Documents marked “do not copy” or otherwise restricted from duplication
Certified copies of vital records must be obtained directly from the appropriate government agency or official document custodian.

Pre-Signing Review & Verification
Notaries are authorized to notarize signatures only when the signer personally appears before the notary, either in person or remotely through secure, state-approved audio-video technology.
Before any signing session can take place, documents must be reviewed and, when necessary, properly formatted to ensure the notarization can be completed correctly and without delay.

Apostille Services
Many legal documents can be sworn, affirmed or declared before a Commissioner of Oaths, who need not be a Notary Public. If the document itself is going to be used outside the jurisdiction, especially internationally, you will likely need to swear or declare before a Notary. This is a practical result of the system used for confirming the execution of international documents. If in doubt, it is normally best to use a Notary, as that covers you, either way.
